The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has advised Nigerians to avoid insults when addressing their concerns to leaders. Speaking during his Sallah message after the Eid-el-Fitr prayer at Fakon Idi on Sunday, March 30, he emphasized the importance of respectful communication with those in authority.
The Sultan encouraged Nigerians to pray for their leaders at all levels, including the President, Governors, Local Government Chairmen, and Lawmakers, asking God to guide them in their duties. He noted that while it is necessary to call leaders’ attention to problems, using polite words rather than insults is more effective in getting them to listen and take action.
He also congratulated Muslims on successfully completing 29 days of Ramadan fasting and urged them to continue practicing the values of the holy month in their daily lives. He advised against returning to bad habits after Ramadan and encouraged people to keep praying for peace, progress, and prosperity in Nigeria.
The Sultan commended Islamic preachers for maintaining respectful sermons during Ramadan and urged them to continue in the same manner. He also praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for providing Ramadan palliatives to the less privileged and for ongoing development projects in the state.
